It was a cold wet March evening in Abergele, as members and guests gathered at NWMC for our close-up competition. As we still have a number of members on the sick list the audience turnout was a little disappointing.
it was sad to see that for the second time this year our President Albert Harrison, had to start the meeting by asking for a two minuet silence for a recently deceased, long time member,” Ivor Nethercott”, who will be sadly missed.
President Albert next welcomed our gusts and thanked the members who were about to take part in the competition, He explained how the running order was established by a draw and the first member taking part was Steve Ashcroft , followed by David Baker, Joe Daly and ending with Esme Hooson.
Albert then asked Steve to begin the competition
Steve included in his act “Street theft” A pickpocket routine, Victorian coins in glass, and ended with a well executed levitating spinning coin.
David followed with a card set, that he has impressed the club with previously, but on this occasion the gremlins were at work. A misunderstanding in his instruction, to the helping spectator, left him no possible way to achieve two of the integral parts of the routine. However, much to his credit, with a little quick thinking he did manage to achieve the final climax with all the hearts ending up on the table as had been predicted.
Next up was Joe, he did a nice act sitting at the close up table, that involved cards, calculations and crystals, and ended with a Pepsi logo proving that the outcome of the entire act had been predicted by Joe beforehand.
Esme, did a nice card routine that involved the two spectators named cards changing to kings and aces and back again, via a combination of nicely executed counting, switching and changes.
Once the votes were counted Joe Daly was Declared the winner.
